Activities and interests in and around the Trinity Alps abound, and will excite you and your whole family! From mountain biking, to fishing, day and overnight hiking to white water rafting, a visit to the Trinity Alps and the Red Hill Motel will provide memories for a lifetime. Following the old mining paths and logging roads, you will see some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere, including Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, the Trinity Alps, and all at the same time! Family day hikes can take you into an isolated alpine lake for fishing, or just a relaxing day with the family. For those seeking a more leisurely day of exploring, a day drive to Trinity Lake, then returning through Weaverville may prove to fit the bill. Weaverville sports a lovely historic district with fine shops and restaurants, one of the finest "gold rush era" museums, a restored Chinese temple, and a lovely walking tour through many historic buildings. Even a drive "down river", along the Trinity is a beautiful addition to any of these side-trips.
Lewiston Lake remains open year 'round, and is known as the "most productive fly fishing lake in Northern California". The lake supports a large population of Rainbow, German Brown, and Eagle Lake Trout ranging in size to 8 lbs! The boat speed limit on the lake is 10mph creating a perfect environment for swimming, wading, and float tubing.
Fly fishing is what placed Lewiston on the map, with visitors traveling from all corners of the world to try their skills on the Trinity River and Lewiston Lake. From beginner to master, novice to pro, visitors return time and again, to the serenity and beauty of the Trinity Alps. |
