Family day hikes can take you into an isolated alpine lake for fishing, or just a relaxing day with the family.  For those seeking a more leisurely day of exploring, a day drive to Trinity Lake, then returning through Weaverville may prove to fit the bill.  Weaverville sports a lovely historic district with fine shops and restaurants, one of the finest "gold rush era" museums, a restored Chinese temple, and a lovely walking tour through many historic buildings.  Even a drive "down river", along the Trinity is a beautiful addition to any of these side-trips.

Fly fishing

  Lewiston Lake remains open year 'round, and is known as the "most productive fly fishing lake in Northern California".  The lake supports a large population of Rainbow, German Brown, and Eagle Lake Trout ranging in size to 8 lbs!  The boat speed limit on the lake is 10mph creating a perfect environment for swimming, wading, and float tubing.
